Soda Blasting

PrintE-mail
Soda (sodium bicarbonate) non-toxic non-hazardous blasting came about during a project to renew the Statue of Liberty inthe late 1980's. Soda replaced sand blasting due to health and injury issues and has become the popular replacement. The angular nature of the crystal of baking-soda is described as "knife-like" when viewed under the microscope. Baking soda is water soluble and has a pH near neutral and a buffering agent as well neutralizing both acids and caustics.

Baking soda blasting is soft enough that it can remove graffiti, rust, and mold without damaging the underlying surface.

Once mold is removed with soda blasting the surface still needs to be treated by microbial solutions.
